From Grandma’s Porch to Houston Carport
Sabra Johnson’s passion for cars started on his grandmothers front porch. Miss Anna owned the Harlem GA mansion once owned by the movie star Oliver Hardy of the famed silence film stars, Laurel and Hardy.
The front porch taught Sabra about life, people and the importance of automotive experiences. From the porch, Sabra would watch his uncles race cars around the dusty track, then repair cars and trucks under the big Oak tree while listening to stories narrated by his grandmother of he and his father driving in fast down the Ga backroads- the sights and sounds of the front porch revolutionized the mind of Sabra.
Later, Sabra continued his education while working at his cousin’s European Sales and Repair center, Samuel’s Auto Brokers. As an adult, Sabra has been an avid performance enthusiast, hobbyist racer, car collector, operated many service centers and today is widely considered an aftermarket theory leader on the subject of automotive restoration.
As a restorer, Sabra Johnson has used disruptive innovation and the first of its kind signature restorative build process to dominate the classic car market. Sabra boats one of the largest rental car collections serving the wedding and film market in the United States, owns the largest classic car enthusiast brand in Houston and one of the largest customer car build concepts in the United States serving global clients. Although Sabra has restored cars for heads of industry, celebrities and elites families across the globe, his passions are rooted in helping everyday people enjoy the power of a classic car experience.

When an opportunity presented for Sabra Johnson to acquire the legendary Carport brand and its historic location at 14515 Walters road, Sabra saw a unique opportunity to help the masses experience the joys of driving a classic vehicle and create epic memories.

The Market Problem: The Carport, like all automotive repair shops, refused servicing both Electric Vehicles (EVs) and classic cars because each presents significant financial and technical challenges to a business designed for standard gasoline-engine vehicles. EVs cut into traditional service revenue, while classic cars demand outdated expertise and hard-to-find parts. With the rise of computerized diagnostics, fewer mechanics are trained in the hands-on, mechanical repair methods that classic cars require. Younger technicians often focus on the computer-savvy skills needed for modern vehicles, leaving a smaller pool of experts for vintage models.
